Why You Should Obsess Over Your Customers

For the simple reason you will enjoy greater success with marketing your business or brand.

You have heard it said time and time again that it is all about your customers. However, if you don’t have an obsession you will never really find those opportunities you need to drive your business forward. This applies whether you are a solo business, have a few employees or even if you use contractors.

The one aspect about being obsessed over your customers is that you develop your intuitiveness and it helps you to think outside the square. You are always on the alert and you will find that obstacles to your success start decreasing.

One note of caution however is to remember not to always take what your customers say literally as their words and feedback may have a totally different meaning to them. Note what they are saying and pretty soon you should be able to see a pattern and gain insights. It is often the interpretation of what they are communicating that shows you the way to opportunities.

So what can this customer obsession do for your business?

Helps you retain your customers

If you have this obsession, then at the heart of all your business and marketing decisions will be a “What is in it for them” attitude. You will continually look for ways to satisfy their needs and desires and never be complacent or assume you know all about them even if they have been a customer for years.

Get greater results from your marketing efforts

It is one of the most important things I have learnt from all the years in marketing. If you have this obsession, then it is so much easier to select the right marketing strategy and tactics to communicate and develop your relationship. You will obtain better results because you have taken the guesswork out and replaced it with insights.

Helps you get a jump on your competitors

Having this focus allows you to be more innovative with the products and services you offer, the way you communicate your point of difference and the way you provide customer service. It also stops you from being a “me-too” in your market and just following what everyone else does. In other words you become the leader that others copy.

The obsession should of course to be healthy and it needs to work for your business. Don’t be afraid to seek input from others especially if you are new to interpreting the information.
