How to Win Back Your Customers

Every business at sometime has lost a customer to a competitor.

Losing a customer, especially ones that you have enjoyed a good relationship with in the past can leave you feeling many emotions such as hurt or even anger.

Often, however we never take the time to find out why they have left or more importantly how we can win them back.

The usual action we undertake is to focus on attracting new customers to take their place.

Instead of doing this, what if you put in place simple actions to gain them back as customers? It is cheaper than increasing your marketing activities to gain new customers and after all what do you have to lose?

Ways to win back your customers include:

Talking With Them
As in personal relationships, communication is key in developing strong customer relationships. It can be the breakdown or lack of communication that leaves a customer feeling they are not as important to your business as they once were.

If communication is the issue then perhaps talking with them can show you the areas that need fixing and you can put a plan in place to ensure the communication does not break down again.

Treat Them as They Want to be Treated
Not all your customers want to be treated the same way. They can have different communication preferences, respond to different product or service offers and have different attitudes and behaviours.

As a suggestion, look at your past marketing activities that were successful with these customers and put together an offer that they would be interested in. You could even put in a personal note to encourage the customer to come back.

Add a Little Sugar or Spice
Could it be the relationship became predictable or even boring? Like all relationships at times you need to nurture the relationship, add a bit of excitement.

If you are adding to your products or services, why not give them a free sample and gain their feedback. You know your customers best so it may be appropriate to send them a simple gift thanking them for their past business or even obtain referrals for their business.
