Business growth should not be complicated. fast business growth

And hesitancy is one reason why it is complicated.

This was highlighted the other day from an email I got from a small business owner.

He offers three services and sales are steady.

And he is looking for ways to grow his business now.

However, he is reluctant to show how the services could be bought together. Or how they complement each other which was costing his business revenue now.

He only offered the other services after they bought the initial service or when a customer asked.

And while he had a sales page for each service he has not shown how buying more than one at a time can benefit customers.

While some of his customers eventually bought complimentary services, he was missing a fast way to grow his business.

The fast way

If you offer complimentary products or services why not package them up and show on your website how they can benefit your customers.

Why not show how your products or services compliment each other and provide benefits to your customers?

It cuts down steps for customers and time and money for your business. They have the information to make an informed decision, rather than waiting for you to tell them later or they ask your business.

Although the Telcos don’t do this that well and many packages are confusing, the concept does work otherwise they would not continue the practice.

Increasing revenue

This simplicity concept does not apply to all businesses and all customers.

However if you have products or services that complement each other what is the downside of highlighting how they work together on your website.

Also if you do package some of them up you have many options available how you promote them. It could be as promotional offers, as a permanent feature, a special offer to segmented customers etc.

This concept is a proven way to increase the average transaction value for each buying decision.

For example in a fruit and vegetable shop, you can buy each separately.  In many shops, they have recipes to show how which ingredients compliment each other and together make a meal or dish.

To simplify the information gathering and buying process for your business and customers can lead to business growth.

    Am in the same boat as Jeannette. And as you know I am aware that I should come up with packages. Just have not figured out exactly how + concentrating on some other issues at the moment.

  2. I’m also building a web based business and launched the Beta version and promoting all the possible way, but currently I’m not able to advertise it to target real customer base.

  3. One way I’ve tried to package complementary services is by highlighting my editing skills by writing analytically about literature, and not just churning out basic book reviews. So many editors blog about language use, but I would keel over if I had to do that every week. It’s been a great way to get started with editing jobs, but now that I’ve been getting projects, I need to put my thinking cap back on.

  4. I agree that making it easy for customers to see things that compliment each other is a win-win.

    As long as it is balanced with not overwhelming people with choice – for instance, yes supermarkets are good at putting little things beside products to inspire extra purchases but quite often it means there are so many things in front mf me that I just blank them all out except for what I was actually after so it often backfires.

  5. When I don’t get all the information I need when I visit a website. I leaven. I wonder what games are they playing and what they hiding and will I really get what they are offering. In my business I can’t package things together as everyone needs are so very different. At the bottom of each product page we do show similar items which does help the customer in deciding what they want or maybe both.

    • I know what you mean about lack of information Arleen. That said for some service business they haven’t thought of highlighting other services rather than hiding the information. The way you highlight other products is a simple way to help customers and increase your sales. Thanks for sharing how you do it.

    This is a thought-provoking post. It’s so simple but so obvious. I’m glad you mentioned the Telcos whose offers are totally confusing. I still don’t have a handle on the packages I’ve bought. I think their purpose is to obfuscate!

    I actually do offer a package, when you think about it, but just haven’t promoted it that way. I help companies with setting up and writing their blogs. But of course, we have to understand and define their brand first. Hmmm. Need to think about how to promote that as a package.
