There are so many tactics to choose from it can be a trap to drop what you are currently doing and jump to another.
Just think of this in terms of trying out different diets or exercise routines to get healthy. If you keep changing then you certainly will not lose the weight and get healthy which are the results you want.
The same goes for your marketing.
This is not to say you should stick to a marketing tactic if you are not getting results which would be pretty dumb. Instead if you have selected them carefully then keep with them, tweaking slightly if you need to, but don’t just start and then stop and start using another one.
A quick tip is do not try and implement too many at the one time. After all to action each one takes time and or money which you only have a certain amount to spend.
So, what are the benefits of being consistent with your marketing tactics?
Does not confuse your customers
You will get bored with what you are doing long before many of your customers even get familiar with it and take the action you want them to take. If you keep changing they will get confused and even leave.
You actually see this all the time, people get on Twitter then leave it, start a newsletter then after a month or so let it drop, follow up with customers as part of customer care each month then stop.
Saves time and money
If you think of the time and or money it takes to learn and then action something it all adds up. If you then stop doing it you are back at square one and have to spend that time and money again on another tactic.
Builds the connection
The more consistent you are leads to a deeper relationship with your customers. It takes time to build the relationship and the more they see you, engage and connect with you the better chance you have to gain customer loyalty and referrals and of course cash in the bank.
These are just three benefits of being consistent so please add to the list.

Hi Susan, I think you have listed the top 3 benefits of being efficiently consistent. To me being consistent reaffirms to the client that the Business/Services are here to stay, offering reassurance and long term benefits. If you want the clients to show up, you need to show up too.

Hi Ensha,
You make great point about reassurance which is so important especially if operating online. Thanks for adding to the post.

Susan,
Wow, another great post! I don’t have the energy to keep up blogging with you…I did my two for the week, I’m exhausted, and now I must rest. Two points in particular that you made: 1) knowing when something is not working and giving up: I have fallen into the trap too many times of doing the same thing and hoping for different results, namely before I started blogging. I thought that even though customers were not finding me, perhaps they would by me remaining silent. Didn’t work! 2) Don’t confuse your customers: we learn from a very early age to crave consistency. I read a very interesting article recently in Psychology Today about parenting styles; the conclusion? It makes very little difference which style parents choose as long as they are consistent! I believe as you state that this has repercussions in business. Customers and readers alike want a “known quantity.” Changing course too often is indeed confusing!
Great post! Regards,
Yoni
Thanks Yoni and I like the analogy with children and parenting. Sometimes I think we make things more complicated than they need be.
Have a good rest and I look forward to reading your next post.
